Juan de Marcos & Afro-Cuban All Stars | A Night of Cuban Music

March 17, 2009 by Group

After half a decade, JUAN DE MARCOS & AFRO-CUBAN ALL STARS return to the U.S. to throw a spectacular party spanning generations of traditional Cuban music, with a stop at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County on April 11, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.  The internationally recognized ensemble brings an eclectic, provocative mix of danzón, bolero, rumba, salsa, guajira, and cha-cha for an arresting one-night-only performance at the Center’s John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall – the last stop of their 40-city tour.

“The audience was dancing in the aisles!” - The New York Times

Presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and Perillo Music, this big band extravaganza boasts the renowned bandleader and producer JUAN DE MARCOS (dubbed the “Quincy Jones of Cuba”) in collaboration with the AFRO-CUBAN ALL STARS. This celebrated group unites a striking cast of brilliant Cuban-born musicians now living across the globe, including pianist Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera (U.S.); drummer Calixto Oviedo (Stockholm); trumpeters Yaure Muniz (Madrid), Igort Rivas (Curacao), Miguel Valdes (Canada); and trombonist Alberto “Molote” Martinez (Amsterdam).  South Florida’s Latin music aficionados can expect to hear a spicy medley of new and intriguing songs, as well as Cuban favorites adored by millions.

“It is with great excitement that we host this world-class ensemble, which brings together some of the hottest musicians in the Cuban diaspora,” said M. John Richard, President and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center.  This stellar cast will pay tribute to Cuba’s contagious and beloved sounds in an electrifying event that will be remembered by our South Florida community for years to come.”
