A new radio project, Under the Sun tells the stories of South Florida, bringing you the accents, passions and sounds of this colorful and complex place we call home. Produced in partnership by WLRN and ZG Public Media, stories are told through the people who live and work here.
Thousands of fascinating stories that each, in their way, provide a “sense of place” about where we live, love, work and play have been hiding, but the program’s producers Dan Grech (Marketplace America’s Desk Correspondent) and Alicia Zuckerman (former contributing producer at NPR’s On the Media) have set out to find them and bring them to life on the air.
On Wednesday, March 4th, we will celebrate this exciting new endeavor – LIVE! Join us for “An Evening Under the Sun” 8pm at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables. Evening highlights will include live conversations with some of the people featured in the series, excerpts from our February 7th premiere episode, sneak peeks from our upcoming show, and special un-aired content. RSVP’s are recommended to: [email protected]
Listen to our first Under the Sun hour-long special and tune in to 91.3 FM WLRN and 91.5 FM WKWM (Florida Keys) for our second episode, Saturday, March 7th at noon, rebroadcast Sunday, March 8th at 7pm.
On Under the Sun you’ll hear you’ll hear the voice of a Holocaust survivor who made pool cues in Miami Beach and a story about a program to place homeless families into foreclosed homes. You may laugh when you hear two cat burglars reminisce about how they made off with millions of dollars in jewels from Palm Beach mansions and you may cry when you listen to a migrant picker who struggles for higher wages in Immokalee.
Under the Sun brilliantly brings out the best in South Florida and we promise that you will find a new appreciation for this tropical locale we call home. To learn more, please visit www.wlrnunderthesun.org
