After a brief and successful run as I/O Lounge, this Downtown Miami nightlife destination hit its stride as the hipster hideaway lovingly referred to as “The Vag” by its Pabst Blue Ribbon swilling friends and fans who celebrate Stone Groove Tuesdays, Shake Thursdays, Electro/Indie dance nights Fridays, and Backdoor Bamby Saturdays. Kick off the weeknight party scene on the patio with a heady mix of jazz, blues, soul and spoken word as Stone Groove combines a hot-dog grill and an edgy downtown crowd that’s dressed down, laid back and oh-so cool.
Shake parties deliver food and drink to a big fat bass beat when local scenesters Aholsniffglue and the legendary Jose El Rey organize a night of bottom shaking fun with DJs A-Train and DZA who warm up the house for an impressive roster of special musical guests. Local indie record shop SWEAT helps fuel the quirky spirit of Friday dance parties where the thrift-store fashionistas dance to bands you’ve probably never heard of but will soon love. With dollar drinks and house DJ Lolo dishing out Brit-pop and electroclash hits, the club keeps up a total dance-frenzy until 5am.
Weekends at The Vag belong to Miami’s legendary circuit party “Backdoor Bamby” with a warm up barbecue on the patio and sounds by Juan Mejia and Kool Large plus occasional visits by the legendary Louis Vega. Monthly Get Low Parties are Miami’s favorite destination for dubstep music featuring guest DJs like Mark Foster/ MRK-1 and the Virus Syndicate who celebrated 2011 at the Vagabond this month at a sell out show. Resident Get Low DJs Juan BassHead, Wreck, Dean, Ashworth and MC Jumanji take the once-a-month event to a higher level every time they play.
