If you are planning a trip to Florida next year, why not take Walt Disney World up on their “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” volunteer program? Disney will give you a free admission to their Orlando theme park if you and your family volunteer a day of work at any project participating in the HandsOn Network (handsonnetwork.org).
Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts announced a partnership with the volunteer clearinghouse to provide a million free passes to inspire people who might not be able to give cash in the troubled economy to get out and give their time instead. “The spirit of our country is very much behind that…” Rasulo said.
HandsOn Network has 70,000 affiliated agencies including Habitat for Humanity, local food banks, churches and more. All volunteers have to do is have their service verified by HandsOn to get an online certificate to print out and redeem at the Disney box office.
The free tickets are part of an emerging trend in tourism to drive sales by innovative new means. Disney announced the program in concert with Southwest Airlines by sending 1,000 volunteers from their own staff to work in projects around the country. If you are interested in volunteering, register online at the Disney link below and then perform your day of service before December 15, 2010. Participants must be over 18 and residents of the US, Canada or Puerto Rico to be eligible for free admission. As an added incentive to good will, Disney will also let you donate your free tickets to a designated charity instead of redeeming them yourself.
